… with the help of a handy time calculator I found online (thank you Google!) adding the times of the songs on my .mp3 player I ran the 5km International Women’s Day Fun Run in 33 minutes and 30 seconds! That’s a good 2 minutes off my best ever time! So while I didn’t break the 30 minutes mark that I’d wanted to - my training went right out the window with all the rain last week – I’m still really pleased. And given the number of Browns Cows I had to run around… for crying out loud people, how hard is it to keep left?? I have no issue with people who walk events like this. It’s for charity, raising money for a great cause while getting exercise and fresh air at the same time. But have a little courtesy for the people around you. It’s not cool to make people run through gardens because you feel like mosying along 6 abreast, hogging the entire path! Under ‘race’ conditions I think my time might have been a little faster.
It was still an awesome run and an awesome day. To my ‘teamates’ Nikki and Sharon – we totally rock! Next year I think we need to make ourselves some uniforms to go with our corporation ;)

Nikki, Sharon and I after the 5km International Womens Day race in Brisbane! It wasn’t an officially timed event, but I should be able to work it out later by adding the song times from my mp3 player ;) The run itself felt really good, best 5km I’ve ever done.

It was time for cake at band again this evening, as it was my birthday yesterday and Damian’s birthday tomorrow. You can’t quite see it in the photos, but half the music notes were painted (edible) silver and the cake itself had a sprinkling of ‘pixie dust’. Happy Birthday, Damian!

Today Jim, Sarah, Becky and I drove out to Lowood to meet our newest family member, Maszat Fiú, who was posted up to Brisbane yesterday from Sydney. His name is Hungarian for smudged or grubby little boy. Jim’s Grandfather used to call him that as a child. The girls were rather impressed, Becky especially so. Kormos, on the other hand, barely seemed to even notice the little puppy! He had a sniff when we arrived and that was about it.

The pitter-patter of little paws will be heard again soon at Lowood with the arrival of Maszat , which is Hungarian for ’smudge’ :) Photos coming soon!!

This weekend brought a trip up to the Sunshine Coast – though “Rain Coast” would have been more appropriate on Sunday. The weather held off JUST long enough for me to finish my race, but just afterwards someone opened the floodgates and we were utterly drowned on the walk back to the motel. I clocked up new PBs for the swim and bike, but at the expense of my run. Plus it was SO humid it was like trying to run through a sponge. Better than having to practically swim all three legs as some poor souls had to in the waves after me. To see Sarah waving and cheering her little heart out at the finish line was my absolute favourite moment of the whole event… I was so proud of her!! She’s going to take my race belt and number in for “Sharing Box” at school next week. She was wearing it this evening, organising her sister to run races with her around the kitchen.
Here are some photos of the weekend. There aren’t any of me actually competing at the moment (as Jim had to try and wrangle both girls and the umbrella!) but Alan and Di will send some along soon. On Saturday the kids had a splash in the motel pool and then we walked down to the beach. Becky is not a fan of the beach. She freaked out every time her toes touched the sand! She was much happier to sit with me and watch her sister and Daddy head out for a swim.

My wandering Band Buddy Kelwin has come home for a few days and tonight he stopped in for dinner. The girls absolutely LOVED him – and the chocolates that he brought with him ;) To top the girls’ evening off, Cole was here too!
